How To Connect MAC OS via openVPN
To connect to UIC VPN on a Mac OS X computer, you will have to download Tunnelblick, a free OpenVPN client for Mac OS X. You will also have to download and prepare your Tunnelblick configuration file. It is recommended that you follow the instructions in order.
Download Tunneblick 3.3. Double-click on the Tunnelblick icon to begin installation.
Click Open when prompted to confirm that you want to install this application.
Next, enter your administrator username and password:
Finally, quit the application.
Download configuration file
- Open Finder and create a new folder on your Desktop called WooVPN.
- Download the configuration file
- Move the downloaded files into the WooVPN folder you created.
- Rename the folder to WooVPN.tblk (when prompted, click Add to add the extension .tblk)
Important: you have to rename the folder after moving the downloaded .ovpn file into it. Do not rename the downloaded .ovpn file. To rename the folder, select it and choose File then Get Info from the top menu bar. Enter WooVPN.tblk into the Name & Extension field and press Enter to save.
Install UIC VPN configuration
Double-click on the Tunnelblick configuration file you had created on your Desktop, named WooVPN.tblk. Select whether you want to install this configuration just for you or all users on your Mac OS X computer. When in doubt, choose Only Me.
Next, you will be prompted to enter your administrator username and password again to install the UIC VPN configuration.
Connecting and disconnecting
The Tunnelblick icon will appear on the far right of your top toolbar. Click and select Connect WooVPN to connect.
When prompted, enter your WooVPN username and password. (can be found in the WooVPN activation email)
To disconnect, click on the Tunnelblick icon and select Disconnect WooVPN.
